Biography | Matthew Coleridge
Matthew Coleridge (b.1980) has emerged as one of the UK's leading choral composers of his generation. His first major work, Requiem, is firmly established amongst the nation's favourite and most frequently performed contemporary choral works, and is a regular fixture in the upper reaches of Classic FM's annual Hall of Fame.
His choral works are performed around the world, with recent highlights including concert performances at Uppsala Cathedral (Sweden), Sagrada Familia (Barcelona), Wells Cathedral (England), St Giles' Cathedral Edinburgh (Scotland) and Bergen Cathedral (Norway). He has become well-known for leading come-and-sing performances of his music across Europe, often working in tandem with UK and overseas choirs to present performances in prestigious venues.
Matthew has written music for The Choir of Royal Holloway, Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, The Queen's Six, Jervaulx Singers, baritone soloist Jeremy Huw Williams, Christchurch Priory Choir, Papagena and Marlborough College Chapel Choir.
In recent years, Matthew has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Rupert Gough and The Choir of Royal Holloway, who recorded the acclaimed album 'Requiem' with Southern Sinfonia in 2022 for Convivium Records. This was chosen as Classic FM's album of the week on its release in 2023. A second album together, 'The Breath of Life' will be released in March 2026
